2002年にNYの街角でNasの『The Lost Tapes』というアルバム（当時はミックステープと呼ばれていた）を5ドルで購入し，ポータブルCDプレイヤーで聴き込んだ頃，まさかじぶんがこの曲を将来翻訳することになるとはこれっぽっちも思っていなかった。そして，そのアルバムを聴いていた当時は，日本語に訳すというマインドはまったく持たず，ありのままにNasがラップするのを聴いていた。「訳す」ということを考えず。

たとえば最近では，ラップを聴いていると，「ふむ，この部分は日本語に訳すとすればこう訳すだろう」ということを考えながら聴いている時もある。しかしそんなことは当時まったく考えずに聴いていた。
