今年No.4の曲はナズ(Nas)とカニエ・ウェストとザ・ドリームの「Everything」です。

音楽に精通している方が以前こう言っておりました。「ヘビメタバンドが作るバラードほど素晴らしいものはない」と。つまり，ヘビメタバンドという普段は激しいヘビーメタル（めちゃめちゃ激しいロック音楽）を作っているバンドが，バラード曲を作るとそれはもう格別（最高）であると。

そしてその文脈で語られるのが，本日第4位にランクインしたこの曲です。

ヒップホップのど真ん中を行く（ヒップホップ界で最も偉大なるアーティストの１人である）ナズ(Nas)をＭＣとして，ビートメイカーとボーカルはザ・ドリーム(The-Dream)，そしてプロデュースはカニエ・ウェストという素晴らしいタッグで制作された楽曲です。

ちょこっと解説：Nasのニューアルバム『Nasir』より

６月１６日（土）にビヨンセとジェイＺ夫婦（名付けてThe Carters）のコラボレーション・アルバム『Everything Is Love』がTidal上でリリースされてから，カニエ・プロダクションによる一連の７トラック・アルバムは落ち着きを見せはじめた。

しかし，ザ・カーターズが『Everything Is Love』をリリースしたのは，Nasが『Nasir』をリリースしたまさに翌日。そこで注目は一気にNasからザ・カーターズへとシフトしていったわけであるが，あえてここで，Nasにスポットライトを当ててみたいと思う。

アルバム『Nasir』からすでに名曲と揶揄されている楽曲⑤『everything』（feat. The-Dream）より，Nas自身のヴァースである以下を引用してみたい。

“When the media slings mud, we use it to build huts /
Irrefutable facts, merciful, beautiful black”

「マスコミが泥を投げてくれば，その泥で仮小屋を作り上げてきた／
まぎれもない事実，なさけ深く，美しい“ブラック”」（訳：J.N.）

このようにNasは，今までカニエ・ウェストがリリースしてきたプッシャＴやカニエ自身のようにドレイクに対してサブ・ディスを投げかけたりすることなく，黒人としての強さを表現している。Nasのライムにはこのような「強さ」を常に感じる。Nasがデビューしたのは１９９４年のことであるが，あれから２４年経た今も，アンダードッグとしての「強さ」を感じる。他方でジェイＺのラップ内容は時期を経て，変わってきた。ハスラー時代からコーナーオフィス時代を経て，リッチ時代，そして今やルーブル美術館でＭＶを撮影するほどのアート時代。しかし，それとは対をなしてNasのライムには２４年前に聴いた「強さ」をいまだに感じることができる。

ザ・カーターズの『Everything Is Love』も素晴らしいが，Nasの『NASIR』も同じくらい聴いていくこととしたい。
